Child Neglect / Abuse
When a child is seriously injured or harmed in a case that is not an accident, the persons legally responsible for that child could be charged with abuse. When a person legally responsible for a child fails to care for that child, causing the child to be harmed physically, mentally or emotionally, in such cases the person(s) involved could be charged with neglect.
The result could be serious; a child can be removed from his or her parents temporarily or indefinitely, and criminal consequences at times could arise as well.
These cases are most often handled in Family Court, and are not to be taken lightly. They always require a skilled and swift response by the accused to minimize the damage done to the relationship between the parent/guardian and child. The process is best left to an attorney, one with experience in Child Neglect and Abuse cases.
